To uphold the Constitution of India by ensuring effective governance, internal security, democratic integrity, and harmonious development, while safeguarding public order, protecting citizenship rights, and promoting inclusive advancement in the state of West Bengal.
- To maintain public security, peace, order and tranquillity across the State through effective law enforcement and coordinated administrative action.
- To exercise administrative control and oversight over the police and allied forces, ensuring professionalism, accountability, and effective functioning.
- To conduct and facilitate elections in coordination with the Election Commission of India and the State Election Commission, in a free, fair and transparent manner.
- To determine, regulate and strengthen the organisational structure, procedures and functioning of the machinery of Government.
- To ensure coordinated functioning among departments and agencies for efficient governance and timely decision-making.
- To manage matters relating to citizenship, nationality and related documentation in accordance with constitutional and statutory provisions.
- To conduct and regulate activities involving relations with foreign powers and their representatives as entrusted to the State Government.
- To determine and observe ceremonial procedures and matters of official precedence in accordance with established protocol.
- To promote social, economic, educational and cultural advancement of the people residing in the hill areas of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts through effective planning, financing, regulation and inspection of designated institutions and bodies.
- Upholding the Constitution of India
- Conduct of elections to the Legislature; matters pertaining to the Election Commission of India as well as the State Election Commission.
- Determination and maintenance of the structure, organisation and procedure of the machinery of Government.
- Control and management of Indian Police Service (including Officers of the Eastern Frontier Rifles), the West Bengal Police Service, and the Assistant Commissioners of the Kolkata Police and subordinate rank of Police Force including the issues relating
- Co-ordination of all governmental activities.
- Maintenance of the public security, peace, order and tranquillity.
- Determination of ceremonial procedure and precedence.
- Conduct of activities involving relations with foreign powers and their representatives and determination of questions of nationality.
- Promotion of social, economic, educational and cultural advancement of the people residing in the hill areas of the districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong financing regulation and inspection of the bodies established for this purpose.
