Commissions of Inquiry Branch

The Commission of Inquiry Branch of the Home & Hill Affairs Department deals with matters relating to the formation and functioning of Commissions of Inquiry constituted under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952.

The Commission of Inquiry Branch processes proposals for the constitution of Commissions of Inquiry by the State Government under the provisions of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952. It handles issuance of notifications, extension of tenure, and other related administrative actions.

The Branch provides administrative, establishment, and logistical support to the Commissions of Inquiry. This includes deployment of officers and staff, arrangement of office infrastructure, and facilitation of day-to-day functioning of the Commission as per approved norms.

The Branch also processes matters relating to sanction and release of funds required for the functioning of the Commission, including expenditure towards establishment, office expenses, and other admissible heads. It coordinates for assistance sought by the Commission during the course of inquiry.

The Commission of Inquiry Branch functions under the Home & Hill Affairs Department by officers and personnel as per the departmental allocation of business.
