1. History-The Redressal of the Public grievance has been engaging the attention of the Government some time. Therefore, as per order no. 1838(150)-PAR(AR) dated-23.12.1998 Public Grievance and Assistance Office(formerly known as Petition Cell) was set up on 1st April 1999.

2.Main Activities- Public Grievance and Assistance Office  deals with request, complaints, petitions and suggestions received from the member of public in respect of work of his office including all Directorate and regional offices under this department. Instead of receiving petitions directly from public, this office receives public petitions through Prime Minister’s Office, President’s Secretariat, Governor’s Secretariat and various others Central Government Institutions/Organization.

3. Existing Staff Strength-An Officer of the rank of Joint Secretary/ Deputy Secretary has been earmarked as Public Grievance and Assistance Officer or Director of Grievances who is responsible to the Secretary/ Principal Secretary of this department. The existing staff strength of this office is placed below:-

4. Performance-This Office as per existing Management Information System(MIS) and put up quarterly and annual report to the Director of Grievance. Specific attention is paid to the petitions pending for more than six week. A performance report up to   20.10.2011 is furnished below:
